Tools

The Tools tab displays a list of functions that can be performed.

  • QRZ.com XML callsign lookup
  • HamQTH XML callsign lookup
  • Logbook Export functions
  • Logbook Import functions
  • Migrate release 2.x Logbooks
  • Delete all logbook entries

 
 

Logbook Functions

Email

The log book can be eMailed to any email address. The email contains the log book as an attachment. The following formats are supported.
  • Comma Seperated Variables (CVS) format
  • ADIF format

Import ADIF File

When you tap the Import ADIF file row, the ADI File Import page is displayed. Tap the row that contains the name of the file you wish to import. In order to copy a file from your computer use iTunes File Sharing to copy the file to the IOS device. See iTunes File sharing section below.

After the file has been imported you can delete the ADIF file by swiping left on the file name then tap Delete. To cancel the delete tap on any other spot on the display.

Export ADIF File

When you tap the Export ADIF file row, the complete log book is exported as an ADIF file. An action message will be dislayed and contains the number of contacts exported. Tap the Dismiss button to continue.

The exported file name is:

myLogFile-YYYY-MM-DD@HHMM.ADI

where:
  • YYY is the current year
  • MM is the month
  • DD is the day
  • HH is the hour
  • MM is the minutes
This file can be copied to your computer using iTunes File Sharing.

Migrate Logbook

The Migrate LogBook function is used to migrate older DxSpot log books (before release 3.0) to the new CoreData/SQLite database. This operation is performed automatically during a software upgrade to release 3.0. The original log book file is not deleted so additional migrations may be performed if desired. The old log file can be deleted using iTunes File Sharing. 

Delete All LogBook Entries


 

All log book entries can be deleted.

You will be prompted to confirm the log book deletion.

iTunes File Sharing

Log files can be copied to and from your computer using iTunes File Sharing.

Using your current Log file program, export your log as an ADIF file. Name this file myLogFile.adi. The name can be any name but the file extension must be adi. Place this file at any convenient folder on your computer. The desktop can be used.

  • Connect your IOS device to iTunes
  • Select your device (top device icon)
  • Select Apps under settings on the left
  • Scroll down to App File Sharing
  • Locate and click DxSpot. The DxSpot Document folder on your device is displayed on the right pane in iTunes
  • Drag and drop your myLogFile.adi to the DxSpot Documents display in iTunes
Once the file has been copied to your device, start DxSpot to begin the import operation.
  • Select the More tab then select Tools->Import ADIF File
  • The file you copied is displayed in the ADI File Import display
  • Tap the myLogFile.adi to begin the import operation
  • When complete, an action message is displayed
  • Tap Dismiss. Your log book has been imported.

You can display the contacts using the LogBook tab. Contacts are sorted by descending date/time.

The myLogFile.adi is not automatically deleted after the import. To delete this file display the ADI File Import display swipe left on the myLogFile.adi file then tap delete.

Additional info:

Files can be copied back to your computer by dragging from iTunes File Sharing display to a computer folder.

Files can be deleted by clicking on the file in iTunes then pressing the delete key.

Note the DxSpot database LogBookDatabase can be deleted using this method. If you delete the LogBookDatabase, DxSpot will build a new database the next time it is launched.

Call Sign Lookup Functions

QRZ.com XML Lookup

Enter the callsign to lookup into the search field.

If QRZ XML credentials have been set then the following is displayed.


 

Tap the disclosure button at the end of the call sign row to display the station Biography.

Tap the Lat/Lon or Grid fields to display the station location on the world map.

If there is an Email address for the station, tap it to send an email message.

Tap the Image field to display a full size image.


   

HamQTH XML Lookup

Enter the callsign to lookup into the search field.

If HamQTH XML credentials have been set then the following is displayed.
